How to date a Beretta 950b with no date stamp?! 🤷‍♂️ (2024)

I've got a Beretta 950b in .25, made in Brazil, no T/S. With Beretta, I've got the date of of 1952-1967. That's all they could answer as this pistol has NO Roman numeral date stamps anywhere on the gun. None. And no, they havent been filed or ground away, pistol is in good shape. Ive stripped the gun and just can't find any marking other than the serial number, serial/barrel match stamp, model info and made in Brazil stamp.

When I told Beretta customer care this and that I can't locate any date stamping, they seemed lost for words and said all of them should be stamped and didn't know what to do to find out anything further.

So, any one know enough about these things to help me narrow it down any more? Long shot I know. But just maybe someone can.

Post some good pics of this pistol and whatever markings there are on The Beretta Forum. Someone there will most certainly know. Also their FAQ is fantastic and may already have what you seek documented.

Usually it can tell you production date but I have
entered a few that didn't produce results.
My 950bs serno worked fine.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Berettas
made in Italy and U.S.A. are preferrable to those made
in Brazil but don't remember if that was 950 specific or
all Beretta models or the reason why.

Used the website and called beretta customer care. Website gave nothing, calling only got the range of '52-'67.

Since making this post, i did a couple hours of googling, I found one website that states all the Brazilian made 950 did indeed have no date stamp. Also found that shortly after their introduction in '52, there was a small redesign of the recoil spring from twin recoil springs to a single combo torsion spring, but i couldnt find an exact date that change was made. Mine has the later, so I guess that probably narrows my date range of '53-'67.

Oh well. I guess that going to have be a good enough answer for me. All I know is it's a pretty cool little pocket gun, it's in pretty nice condition, and It only cost me a $20 firing pin and $50 gunsmith bill. Which is a bit of a funny story:

Mother in law runs a thrift store. Gun was found in the pocket of an OLD fur coat that probably hadn't seen the outside of a closet since 1972. Coat donation was in a random bag of clothes and no way to track where it came from and the thrift store can't sell it. So she called me to get it. I called local PD and had them run it. Not stolen or wanted for a crime. Officer said "thanks for calling, we'll take care of it started to climb in her patrol unit with it". Yeah, no, I don't think so... I didn't call you take the gun. I called you to clear it because I'm keeping it. Lol. She didn't know what think. "It was donated to a business, business gave it to me, it's not a lost or found, stolen or wanted gun so you're not taking it." Her: "uh, let me call my seargent". Seargent told her leave it with me. after that I discovered it needed a firing pin.
